Shakespeare in the Park.

Last night I got to enjoy a taste of culture and headed in to Twickenham to see the Taming of the Shrew.

I’d forgotten how funny it is and just how vulgar. It was a great production and sitting under the trees with the beautiful Horse fountain behind the stage it was one of the more surreal and beautiful experiences I have had in London.

The players were all in circus costume and it was genuinely great entertainment. The leads were fantastic but for be it was the servants that really stole the show. Cleverly underplayed and with great comedic timing I found my self enjoying their antics in the background just as much as that which was going on in the spotlight.

For those of you who don’t know the play you might know the film 10 things I hate about you starring Aussie legend Heath Ledger which is based on the play. For those of you who might think that Shakespeare has little to do with you, remember The Lion King is based on Hamlet and She’s the Man is based on Twelfth Night as well as a tonne of others.

My time in London is already off to a great start and last night was a great way to spend a Saturday night instead of bouncing my way through a dark night club and avoiding chillouts.

I’m planning a trip to the Globe Theatre now, I just gotta find a date. 😉

Ahh I’m jealous! Taming of the Shrew is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays! I just saw Twelfth Night for the first time this past weekend in the US and it was great! I hope to visit London someday and see a play in the Globe theatre.
