Soooooo last weekend was a big one and when I say it was a big one I mean BIG.
I don’t drink often or a lot. It’s just not something I do so when I went out on Saturday night for a mates birthday I let the night and the drink get away from me in a big way
This train wreck resulted in a little bit of making out on the dance floor and a whole lot of red wine and hummus coloured vomit on my shoes. When I posted on my instagram that I wouldn’t be able to go back to that bar again I meant it!
This isn’t a post about the dangers of binge drinking or hangover cures. You can’t cure a hangover you just have to wait it out but are things you can do to help your body recover. This post is about how I recover from a big night out when I am lying on my best mates couch staring at the roof and wishing that room would stop spinning.
- Drink lots of water.
A large glass of water before you head to bed and lots of water as soon as you wake up will make the world of difference. Drinking water during the night as well will help keep you hydrated.
Even when my stomach rebels I try to make sure I eat. I stay away from dairy and eggs straight away. Some people like a fry up but I prefer something sweet and full of carbs to settle my stomach. A couple of antacids at this stage work wonders too.
- Delete the evidence
Okay this one is for the soul not the body but I usually go through my phone and deleted anything really embarrassing. Unless of course it’s completely hilarious.
If I can close my eyes without feeling like I am going to fall off the planet then I try to sleep.
- Get some fresh air.
After my stomach has settled and I can stand up without swaying too much I like to go for a walk and get some fresh air. Cold air helps enormously especially after a meal.
- Jerk off.
The endorphins do wonders for a hangover and the exercise feels great!
So no real surprises here. Mostly after a big night I find the best thing to do is get out and get on with my day. Wallowing in bed feeling shit doesn’t help especially when you don’t eat and rehydrate.
So there you go. My guide to recovering from a big night out.
