Well the Christmas season is over for another year and it’s time to look back over the damage. Christmas is one of the times of the year that can be the most stressful for everybody involved. The pressure of gift giving and having to run around “visiting” means that most people are too distracted to actually enjoy the holiday season.
As somebody who doesn’t buy in to the religous side of the holidays, Christmas time for me is about renewing the bonds of friendship and family and about looking forward to what the future year might bring.
This year for me has been mostly successful with many of my goals for the year getting ticked off my list. I finally landed and awesome job and got to do some travelling around Europe. Next year looks like it will be just as bright.
As for my being back in Australia, many of you have been asking how long I am here for and why I am back. I have decided to come back home for the summer. So I plan to be here at least until March/April before heading back to Europe or possibly the West coast of the US. Things are still in planning mode for next year. I also really wanted to surprise my family for Christmas.
I arrived a week before Christmas but only told a couple of mates that I was here. The figured the less people that knew I was back meant the less chance of somebody spilling the beans. I also wanted some time to get over the jet lag before the craziness of Christmas.
The plan was to arrive at Christmas eve dinner unannounced. This year there was a slight change of venue though. My brother just moved in to a new house and I didn’t know the address. I had to enlist Mums partner in to the plan. Everything well smoothly and I got to give my family a nice little shock. Mum said ‘oh no, we don’t have a present for you’, but all the things I want as I get older can’t be bought anyway, it means a lot to Mum that we are all together for Christmas.
I’d forgotten how much I enjoy Christmas and summer in Australia and traditions like watching the DR WHO christmas special in my underwear, BBQ’s, and swimming. It’s gonna be a great summer this year.
