I’ve been enjoying my time here amongst the islands but the chance to go on a longer journey with a real destination excites me. We will be sailing down the coast for about 4 weeks depending on the wind and the weather conditions.
Fraser Island is about 370 nautical miles away and we could make the journey in Arion in about ten days if we sail hard, but we plan on making a few stops along the way and really enjoying the trip over about 3-4 weeks.
I have had a few adventures over the years but this time it will be very different. Not only will we be out of communication for the next ten days, we will be sailing around some quite remote areas of the north eastern Australian coast.
Our preparation for the journey has been thorough and my skipper Graham has nearly 40 years sailing experience so I am very confident that this experience will be something very special. I have never had to think about rationing water and making sure there are emergency supplies but it just makes it even more exciting. I’ve grown very confident on the Arion and my sea sickness is almost gone.
One of the things I am looking forward to the most is seeing lake Mc Kenzie which is a large fresh water lake on Fraser Island and is said to be quite beautiful. You can be sure the camera will be out in force that day. It would also be nice to have a swim in fresh water for a change.
I have made sure that blog will be well stocked with posts over the next couple of weeks so there will be lots for you to enjoy while I am away, and there will be a few stories to tell I’m sure when we come back in to range.
