Why I won’t make it to Mardi Gras this year.

I’m not going to make it to Mardi Gras this year and I am very disappointed but despite the FOMO (fear of missing out) I am glad in a way to be having a year off and to be able to keep focussing on what’s important.

I have been much more focussed this year on getting my life under control. Work, love, and a lot of other obligations that I have been putting off are high on my list for action.

I’m sorry that I won’t be there to report on all the speedo clad hijinks for you, but I will make sure that I share lots of links after the event so that you can still check it out.

As I focus more and more on what’s important to me and on getting on my way to building some kind of future for myself events like Mardi Gras seem to be less and less important. Sure I’d love to be dancing up Oxford St in my Speedo but Mardi Gras isn’t going anywhere, but hopefully I am. For those of us not based in Sydney either, it can be an expensive exercise, so each time I feel like jumping on a plane I remind myself what I am keeping the money for and that my friends is a book.

Yes, stay tuned because I am currently working on a book that I will be selling through the blog and my own websites. Many of you have been asking about where you can see more of my work and this will be a great and inexpensive way for you to own a little slice of it for yourself.

I am also looking at ways to raise the money I will need for printing and publishing so you can be sure that there will lots of chances for you to win signed artwork and free books.

As well as my own professional work I am also thinking about publishing a book of my own images. Yep all those shots you see floating around the internet in one glossy book. Then maybe other things like mouse pads, playing cards LOL the sky is the limit. Like I said, I’m toying with the idea but I think it would be something fun to have available through the blog.

So the sacrifice of one dirty weekend away, will be worth it in the long run I hope.

You have shown all of us that you are mature, and yet still growing…coming of age, perhaps? Your intelligence level is very high, and to see you missing a party to work on well, work, etc. means that you are moving ahead in life, rather than standing still. I think this is inspirational for all the young people who read your blog, and respect you. I know I like to poke fun at some of your tweets, and have a good time with them, but it’s reassuring to know that you’re a smart guy, with your priorities straight. That means when I finally come visit, I don’t have to slap you silly! We can just have a beer, mate, and celebrate your success in life!

    Peace <3

Fairly new lurker here, prompted to emerge by your sentence “I am also looking at ways to raise the money I will need for printing and publishing so you can be sure that there will lots of chances for you to win signed artwork and free books.” Have you heard of or are you thinking of using Kickstarter or Indiegogo? They’re well established means of crowdfunding which would enable you numerous followers to each donate a small sum in return for e.g. a signed photo or sign copy of your book. Anyway, good luck!!

I’m interested in seeing more about this book that you’re making.
