I get asked all the time,
Where do I buy a speedo?
What kind of speedo should I get?
What is your favourite brand of swimwear?
Before the purists jump on me for calling all swim wear speedos I want to point out that it was the Speedo that was the modern precursor to most swimwear today and the the word speedo has become a colloquial term. So when I say Speedo I mean the Aussie Legend, and when is say speedo, I am referring to swimwear in the Speedo style.
Every Summer I seem to collect more and more swimwear. Speedos and all kinds of other brands, and every summer I seem to have my favourites. For my fellow Space Time Travellers in the northern hemisphere who are going in to winter this post should at least warm your hearts. Interestingly this article is still useful because in some places you are not allowed to wear the poop catchers ( board shorts ) in public pools because of health and safety regulations.
This year colour is in.
If you are looking for a summer speedo then colour is always good, but this summer it seems to be even bigger. Turquoise seems to be a popular choice at the moment as are the fluorescent colours. Budgie Smugglers make an impressive range of very bright patterned speedos.
For darker skinned guys white and yellow can look amazing but are tough to keep clean, especially with lotions, oil, and possibly lube flying around.
If you have fairer skin, blues and greens are great colours. Try to avoid red, white or yellow as they can make you look a little washed out.
Colours and patterns are fairly easy to choose as they are a matter of personal style. The toughest thing to decide on is the cut.
Choosing the wrong cut can mean a summer of bad tan lines, squashed lunch and constant wedgie excavation. Personally I prefer the looser fits. Something that allows movement is going to be far more comfortable and the lighter the material the better I think. There are many Styles but I have found that for lightness of material it’s very hard to go past the Aussie Bums. Their Classic, Loose, Stripes and Club ranges are full of awesome colours and fit very nicely.
Some fashion swimmers will have thick waist bands, elastic and draw strings. Personally I find these unattractive. Unless it’s a fashionable pool party, the more pretentious your swimmers are the more you will look like you shouldn’t be wearing them.
Remember once you choose the cut, stick to it all summer. If you are going to be tanning you only want one tan line, not 5.
Match the style to your body shape.
You don’t have to be a cover model to wear a speedo. Picking the right cut and shape will complement your look.
For guys with broad hips a brief or a square cut with a narrow waist band is good. Make sure that you wear them so that they sit across the widest part of your hips.
For guys with awesome legs I think a square cut looks great as it emphasises the thighs.
For guys with a flat butt try briefs, let them sit low at the front and across the hips and then pull them up slightly at the back to give you some shape and booty.
Stay away from the crazy stuff.
Slings, pouches, built in cock rings and the ridiculous cuts that make your cock hang like a tree branch just look plain stupid, are gross and to be honest if you know it’s not real then whats the point anyway?
It’s easy to buy swimwear online if you know whats going to look good already, but if you are not sure or shopping for your first pair, try them on. Post a quick selfie to instagram or facebook and you will find lots of people ready to offer you validation. Also remember, the above points are not rules just suggestions. Only you can find your new favourite pair.
