>In the Spirit for Spirit Day.

Today is Spirit Day. It is a day when we take time to show solidarity around the world against bullying by wearing purple and raising awareness of the issue. Spirit day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany Mc Millan as a response to the epidemic of young LGBT youth committing suicide.  All you have to do to get involved is wear purple.

As somebody who was bullied at school and who almost committed suicide because of it, I feel a strong link to youth out there now who are going through the same torment.

Some people will always question the validity of symbols but they bring communities together and raise awareness which right now is valuable and needed.

The choice of purple represents spirit on the rainbow flag.
