CHARLOTTE Dawson will host Foxtel’s coverage of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade this Saturday.
“Mardi Gras is very dear to me,” she said.

“I’ve been involved with the gay, lesbian and transgender community for many years.”

Dawson said she was taking heat for her warnings about plastic surgery.

She said she had undergone work during in an unhappy time in her life.

“The result looked fine, but within myself, it didn’t make me happier,” Dawson said.

But she was content to be den mother on Australia’s Next Top Model.

“I try to be witty, never nasty,” she said.

Channel 9 Winter Olympics commentators Eddie MaGuire and Mick Molloy could learn a thing or 2 from Miss Dawson. The two commentators have been caught out over comments made about the mens figure skating at the current winter Olympics.
As the pair commented on the men’s figure skating event, Mick Molloy said: “They don’t leave anything in the locker room these blokes do they”, to which a snickering Eddie MaGuire added “they don’t leave anything in the closet either do they.”
Molloy quickly covered by warning MaGuire he could get into trouble for his comments.

The transcript went as follows;
EDDIE MCGUIRE: …what about the fashion at the ice skating?
MICK MOLLOY: They don’t leave anything in the locker room those blokes.
EDDIE: They leave nothing…
MICK: When they get out there…
EDDIE: They don’t leave anything in the closet either do they? [Laughs].
MICK: They [laughs], well they — careful you’ll get yourself into trouble there…
EDDIE: Sorry mate.
The footage then cut to male figure skater.
MICK: Look at this guy, it was like one of those fake tuxedos that you — even Prince saw that and went, oh hang on, you can’t go out wearing that. Oh look out, the hay seed look’s in this year. What is that?
Cut to footage of a skater in a flannelette shirt.

EDDIE: A bit of broke back?
MICK: A bit of Brokeback Mountain exercise. You can’t wear it. They’re very flamboyant, they love a bit of colour as we said.
The pair were clearly making reference to the film “Brokeback Mountain” which starred Heath Ledger.
Channel 9 is reported to have had several complaints but has not yet made any comment on the incident.
Members of the Facebook page “Eddie Mcguire is ruining the 2010 Winter Olympics coverage” were also outraged as were many other followers on social media networks across the internet.
This is not the first time Eddie MaGuire or channel 9 have been accused of making anti-gay remarks or content. The network was recently sued over and anti-gay skit aired on its Footy Show. The skit, which aired on May 7, featured Matthew Johns, who was on suspension from the show following a group sex scandal, play his and brother Andrew’s fictional sibling “Elton Johns”.
In the skit, “Elton” is taken to hospital for being gay, with Andrew saying “I’m so ashamed of him”.

Why is it that with all the talent available in Australia we are still putting up these red neck yobs as our ambassadors. This kind of rubbish needs to stop. The winter Olympics is a serious showcase of athletic talent and deserves more then these lowest possible common denominator, football chat show, cheap laugh, schoolboy antics.
Channel 9 only recently came under fire for its “black face” skit on Hey Hey it’s Saturday.
